How we operate

Run like an engineering team.

The team is organised into the disciplines above, each working toward the same season goal on its own timeline — design finishes ahead of manufacturing, manufacturing ahead of assembly, and so on through the season.

Students take direct ownership of real problems within their discipline, from a single part to a full subsystem. Decisions are made by the students doing the work, with mentors providing technical guidance rather than making the calls themselves.

Mentors

Guided by professional engineers.

Team 8029’s mentors are practising engineers who volunteer their time and professional background to guide the team’s technical decisions, safety practices, and long-term skill development.

Culture

We build robots. We're building engineers.

Build season runs on a real deadline that doesn’t move — the robot ships when the season clock says it ships. That rhythm is intense at times and steady at others, but it is constant across every discipline on the team.

Students work on hardware and software that has to perform in front of judges, opponents, and a scoreboard — not in a simulation. Mentors are there to guide that work, not to do it for them.
